As the world around us continues to change, so too does our understanding of what children need to be safe, supported and protected.
Children can begin building a digital footprint long before they are old enough to understand what that means or have a say in how their image is captured and shared. In today’s increasingly digital world, that means thinking not only about protecting children’s physical safety, but also their privacy when it comes to sharing their image online.
Photographs are a wonderful way to capture children’s experiences. They help families feel connected to their child’s day and provide a window into the learning, discovery, relationships and joy that happens.
As one of Australia’s leading early learning providers, we have an important responsibility to carefully consider how photographs and videos are shared online.
Our evolving approach will see Goodstart take a safer and more intentional approach to photography and reducing the number of images we share through Storypark.
We are focused on sharing meaningful moments that help families understand and engage with their child’s experiences, learning and development. This includes thinking carefully about how images are taken, what they show and how children are photographed to better protect their privacy.
This approach is also about supporting our educators and teachers to be fully present with children. The images we share with our families will continue to offer meaningful insight into their child’s experiences at Goodstart, while ensuring photography supports the important work happening in our centres every day.
As our understanding of digital safety continues to grow, we will continue to listen, learn and evolve our practices.
